Metro Bank business credit cards: features, fees and alternatives
Published on: 3rd August 2026
Metro Bank offers one business credit card, but you need to hold a Metro Bank Business Current Account or Commercial Current Account before you can apply, and applications go through a store rather than a form online. That makes it a straightforward option if you already bank with Metro Bank, and a longer route if you don't.
This guide explores the features of the Metro Bank business credit card and how it compares to other options, so you can make the right choice for your business.
All figures below come from Metro Bank's own product page and are correct as of July 2026. Rates and terms can change, so confirm the current position with Metro Bank before you apply.
What does Metro Bank offer for businesses?
Metro Bank is a UK high street bank, covering current accounts, deposit and savings accounts, and a set of borrowing options including business and commercial loans, overdrafts, invoice finance, asset-based lending and asset finance.
The Business Credit Card sits inside that borrowing range rather than standing alone. It's designed as a spending and expenses card for businesses that already bank with Metro Bank, not as a rewards product or a standalone credit line you can pick up independently.
Key features
The card runs on Mastercard, supports contactless payments and comes with online and mobile banking access for managing the balance.
Rates, fees and any rewards
Metro Bank quotes 18.9% APR Representative (variable) on all cards, with no annual fee for holding the card. Its Important Information Summary sets a minimum credit limit of £500, with the maximum subject to status, and confirms there are no default charges.
The interest-free period is up to 56 days on purchases, and it only applies if you pay your balance in full and on time. ATM cash advances are capped at £300 a day.
Metro Bank doesn’t apply charges for card purchases and cash withdrawals in the SEPA countries it lists as Europe. Outside that group, a 2.99% non-sterling transaction fee applies and cash withdrawals, plus a £1.50 non-sterling cash fee.
It’s also worth noting that there is no cashback, no points scheme and no sign-up reward.
Fee structures and rates vary between providers and between customers, so compare the full published terms of any card you're considering rather than the headline rate alone.
Account requirements
You need a Metro Bank Business Current Account or Commercial Current Account to hold the card.
Metro Bank directs applicants into a store, where a Local Business Manager handles the application, and commercial customers are pointed to their Relationship Manager or Local Director instead.
You can link up to nine nominated cardholders to the account, which covers most small teams without extra card fees.
Cardholders need online banking access to make online purchases.
Repayments run by Direct Debit or manual payment, and the minimum repayment is the higher of £20 and any fees and charges for the month plus 5% of the remaining balance.
Eligibility and who it suits
In order to get a MetroBank business or commercial current account, you need to be 18 or over, and the card is subject to status. Credit limits are set individually.
That makes the card a simple fit for a business already banking with Metro Bank, but if you bank elsewhere, the card only becomes available after you open a Metro Bank account, which is a bigger decision than picking up a card.
It suits businesses that clear the balance monthly and want simple, predictable card costs. If you want cashback or rewards on your spend, or if you'd rather apply online and get a decision the same day, then it might be worth comparing other options.
How it compares to other UK business cards
UK business credit cards split roughly into two groups, and the difference matters more than any single factor like the rate.
Cards from banks, like Metro Bank's, usually sit alongside a business current account with the same provider. You get the branch relationship and a single banking view, but you take on the account as well as the card, and applications often run through a branch or relationship manager.
Standalone providers such as Funding Circle can issue business credit cards without asking you to move your banking.
Applications are typically online, decisions are faster, and rewards such as cashback are more common. The trade-off is that you manage the card separately from your bank account, though most cards now sync with accounting software.
When you compare options, the points worth lining up are the representative APR, the annual fee, the length and conditions of the interest-free period, foreign transaction charges, how many cards you get for your team, and whether the card pays anything back on your spend.
Terms differ between providers and can differ between customers on the same product, so check the current published terms in each case before deciding.

Do I need a Metro Bank account?
Yes. Metro Bank requires you to hold a Business Current Account or Commercial Current Account with them before you can apply for the card.
