Monzo business credit card: features and alternatives

Published on: 2nd July 2026

If you're looking for a Monzo business credit card, it's worth knowing what Monzo actually offers first. Monzo provides business expense cards for teams through its Monzo Business Team plan, not a traditional business credit card with a revolving credit line. The two do different jobs, so the right choice depends on whether you want spending controls for your team or access to credit.

This guide explains what Monzo's business cards are, how they work, where they fit, and what to consider if a business credit card is what you're really after.

Does Monzo offer a business credit card?

No. Monzo doesn't offer a business credit card in the usual sense, meaning a card with its own credit line that lets you borrow up to a limit and repay over time. What Monzo offers instead is business expense cards, which are debit cards linked to your Monzo Business account. If you’re looking for business credit, Monzo does offer a
business overdraft.

What Monzo actually offers

Monzo's expense cards let you hand cards to team members so they can spend from your business account, within limits you set. They come as part of Monzo Business Team, the top tier of Monzo's business banking plans. So rather than a way to borrow, they're a way to manage and control team spending from money your business already holds.

How Monzo business expense cards work

The expense cards are built to help you simplify team spending and admin, with the account holder having overall control.

Team cards, spend limits and app visibility

You can give cards to team members and set individual monthly spending limits for each one, so people can buy what they need while you stay in control.

  • Cardholders see a limited view of the app that shows only their own spending and limits.

  • They can't see your account balance or move money in or out.

  • If you need to, you can freeze a card, and you can track all team spending in real time from the app or a web browser.

Cost and eligibility

Expense cards sit within their Monzo Business Team product, which costs £25 a month and supports up to 15 team members.

  • Monzo's other plans are Lite (free) and Pro (from £9 a month), but team expense cards are a Team feature.

  • To apply, you have to open a Monzo Business current account. Monzo's business banking is available to UK sole traders and limited company directors.

Xero integration and receipt capture

Team members can add receipts, the reason for a purchase and VAT details in the app at the point they pay, which cuts down on admin later.

  • Monzo connects with accounting tools including Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent and Sage, so transactions and receipts sync to your bookkeeping automatically.

  • If you’re looking for just this feature, it’s worth knowing that it’s also available in their Pro plan.

What you can and can’t do

Monzo's expense cards are a good fit if your main goal is to let a team spend with clear limits and tidy admin, all from a single business account.

Expense card vs credit card

The key thing to understand is that an expense card spends your own money. It uses your Monzo Business account balance, so there's no borrowing involved, no credit line, and no interest-free period in the way a credit card offers one.

That's fine if you only want spending controls. It's a gap if you also want access to credit, a way to spread the cost of purchases, or rewards on your spending.

Why use a business credit card

The key difference between an expense card and a business credit card is that a credit card gives access to additional spending power.

This comes in the form of a credit line you can draw on up to a limit, repaying over time or in full.

  • Most cards include an interest-free period on purchases, so if you clear the balance by the due date you pay no interest, which gives you breathing space on cash flow

  • A credit card can help build your business credit profile, which can potentially help you apply for additional finance in future

  • Some cards pay cashback or other rewards on the spending you'd do anyway

So if your needs go beyond controlling team spend, and you want purchasing power, a buffer between paying and settling, or something back on what you spend, a business credit card is the product to look at.

Also, many credit cards also offer additional cards for your team, so you can get the spending controls and the credit line together.

Monzo Business Credit Card FAQs

Does Monzo offer a business credit card?

Monzo offers business expense cards through its Monzo Business Team plan, rather than a traditional business credit card with a credit limit. The expense cards let your team spend from your business account within limits you set, but they don't provide credit.

How much do Monzo business expense cards cost?

Expense cards are part of Monzo Business Team, which costs £25 a month and includes up to 15 team members. Monzo's cheaper plans (Lite and Pro) don't include team expense cards. Pricing and plan features change, so check the current details on Monzo's site before applying.

What's the difference between Monzo's expense card and a business credit card?

A Monzo expense card spends your own balance with controls and limits, so there's no borrowing and no repayments. A business credit card gives you a credit line you can borrow against, usually with an interest-free period on purchases if you clear the balance in time, and sometimes cashback or rewards. One controls spending and the other provides credit.
