UK Managing Director & Co-Founder
As cofounder and UK Managing Director James leads the UK business and is responsible for overseeing the overall strategic direction and daytoday operation of Funding Circle in the UK. James cofounded Funding Circle in the UK in 2010 after seeing how difficult it was for small businesses to access funding and wanting to build something better. Prior to Funding Circle James was at OC&C Strategy Consultants where he advised companies on strategy and growth across the retail, media and services sectors.
James has a first class Economics and Management degree from Oxford University.
UK Chief Operating Officer
Pam is responsible for UK operations at Funding Circle. Pam has extensive experience growing internet companies from start-up to the international level.
Prior to Funding Circle, she was Head of European Marketing Operations at LOVEFiLM where she was responsible for the operational delivery of acquisition marketing, partnership services and CRM strategy across Europe.
Chief Strategy Officer
Lisa is responsible for strategy and corporate development at Funding Circle. Lisa develops Funding Circle’s strategy and business development, which includes international expansion, developing and launching new product propositions and incubating new business areas.
Prior to Funding Circle, Lisa worked independently as a business change consultant in the insurance industry and as a strategy consultant for the Boston Consulting Group. Whilst at the Boston Consulting Group, she advised national and multinational companies, from a variety of industries, on strategic and operational initiatives covering growth, new product development, reorganisation and transformation, amongst others. Lisa read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford.
Lucy is Global General Counsel, heading up Funding Circle’s legal function as well as UK compliance.
Lucy was one of the founder members of Kemp Little LLP, a technology focused City law firm, where as head of corporate she worked on M&A, equity and debt financing for financial services and fintech companies. She was managing partner of Kemp Little from 2009 to 2011 when she became Wonga’s first General Counsel and built up the company’s international legal team, before joining Funding Circle in 2014.
UK General Counsel
Martin joined Funding Circle in early 2015, and is responsible for UK legal and regulatory affairs. He is also Funding Circle’s Data Protection Officer.
Prior to joining Funding Circle, Martin spent time in private practice and in senior in-house roles. During his time at Slaughter and May (in London, Hong Kong and Brussels) and Travers Smith, Martin focused on corporate, technology and commercial work for a wide range of clients, principally in the FMCG, pharmaceutical, technology, telecoms and financial services sectors. At Royal Mail, Martin had responsibility for stamps and key modernisation and transformation projects. During Martin’s time at Wonga Group, he was responsible for corporate, operations and commercial legal work, as well as for international expansion and the group’s e-commerce and small business lending product propositions.
Director of Growth - Europe
Brian is responsible for marketing and customer acquisition at Funding Circle in the UK.
Brian has over a decade of experience in customer acquisition and technology, beginning his career at Razorfish, a global digital agency. Since moving to the UK, Brian has held senior positions in early stage technology businesses. Brian was a director at Viagogo, the global ticket marketplace, in charge of marketing and growth in over 30 markets. Most recently Brian served as Head of Marketing for the book marketplace Anobii. Brian has a BA from the University of Washington, and an MBA from the University of Oxford.
Steve is responsible for UK product and design at Funding Circle, having worked for many years on both business and consumer marketplace businesses.
At Royal Mail, he introduced the award winning Smartstamp online franking service for small businesses before managing the re-launch of their main site and applications. At eBay he introduced a range of data driven recommendation services before leading product change at Gumtree, the largest UK classifieds site.
Head of Real Estate
As Head of Real Estate & Broker Introduced Finance, Luke has brought his extensive banking and real estate finance experience to build a sustainable, competitive property finance proposition for the business globally.
Prior to this, Luke was UK Head of Property Finance for Barclays Business Bank. For two years he oversaw a team of 32 who originated over £800 million of real estate debt across the UK. He ended his time at Barclays Business Bank as their Commercial Director, largely responsible for the commercial and financial performance of the business unit.
UK Chief Risk Officer
Rahul brings 14 years’ experience in risk management. As Chief Risk Officer for UK operations, he chairs the UK credit committee and manages credit and fraud risk, data and MIS, and credit analytics.
Rahul began his risk management career with American Express and later joined Morgan Stanley in Chicago, where he worked across origination, line management, and pricing functions and guided cross functional teams in regulatory compliance. He performed a similar role at HSBC US. Rahul moved to London in 2010 as a senior consultant with Oliver Wyman Consulting and executed several regulatory risk management engagements across Europe.
Rahul has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology and MBAs from Indian Institute of Management and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Chief Capital Officer
Sachin Patel leads the Global Capital Markets Group and is responsible for Funding Circle’s investor strategy. This includes the design, structuring and distribution of Funding Circle’s investment products to high net worth individuals, asset managers, banks, insurance companies, pension funds, national and supranational institutions.
Prior to Funding Circle, Sachin was Vice President in the cross-asset structured products and ALM solutions businesses at Barclays Capital and J.P.Morgan, structuring transactions and advising a broad range of investors including insurance companies, pension funds, asset managers and private banks across EMEA.
Sachin holds an MPhys (Physics) from Oxford University.
Group Financial Director
Alysha is the Financial Director and is responsible for both the UK and Group Finance teams, treasury as well as CASS compliance.
Prior to Funding Circle, Alysha worked as the Director of Finance & Reporting at LOVEFiLM and managed the Group Finance teams, 3 regional teams in both the UK and Europe as well as managing the Group Business Intelligence team. She also worked on the Amazon acquisition and migrating all LOVEFiLM financial operations. Alysha qualified in Australia where she also attained a Bachelor of Commerce at LaTrobe University, Melbourne.
David is VP of Engineering, leading Funding Circle’s UK development team.
David began working at Moreover.com, one of the first news aggregation services and developed a content harvesting system used by the major search engines of the time MSN, Yahoo, AskJeeves, Altavista. Most recently, David was Head of Development at Mobile Interactive Group developing high performance SMS systems for organisations such as Orange, Vodafone TextGiving, Children in Need, and Big Brother.
